What is Ragging?

Ragging means playing practical jokes on somebody or teaching someone a lesson in a harmful or humiliating manner. According to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, ragging includes:

  • Any spoken or written act that teases, abuses or handles a student with rudeness.
  • Rowdy or undisciplined activities causing annoyance, hardship or psychological harm.
  • Actions that generate fear, shame, or embarrassment in any fresher or junior.
  • Conduct that affects self-confidence or mental well-being of any student.
Important: Ragging is strictly prohibited. Any involvement will lead to strong disciplinary action as per the Supreme Court & Institute guidelines.

About the Policy

Ragging is strictly prohibited as per the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, UGC, and regulatory authorities. The institution follows a zero-tolerance approach toward any act that violates dignity, safety or mental well-being of students.

Definition of Ragging

“Ragging” means any act that causes or is likely to cause physical, psychological, emotional or academic harm, embarrassment, or fear to any student. Ragging includes:

  • Any verbal, written or physical act that teases, insults or treats a fresher with rudeness.
  • Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined behaviour causing annoyance, hardship or discomfort.
  • Forcing a student to perform acts they wouldn’t ordinarily do, causing shame or embarrassment.
  • Interrupting or disturbing academic activities or classes of another student.
  • Any form of physical abuse — including sexual abuse, assault, stripping or lewd acts.
  • Abuse through spoken words, emails, posts, social media, or public insults.
  • Any act affecting mental health, self-confidence or dignity with intent to show superiority.
Note: Ragging in any form is a punishable offence. Strict disciplinary and legal action will be taken against the offenders.
